Gambel’s Quail are ground foragers found year-round throughout the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan deserts. Today, they aren’t a species of concern, mostly thanks to banning specific pesticides. When they eat the fish, they also begin to intake the pesticide. Like pelicans, they were hit hard by DDT runoff from farms entering water sources and the fish swimming in them. Pesticides are one of the largest threats to ospreys. Most of their lives are spent alone, however they engage in spectacular breeding rituals where they tangle talons and dive through the sky.
